Rtn. Ravuri Venkata Subbarao Rotary Year 2014-15 is one of the memorable years in the history of Rotary Club of Vijayawada Midtown. Year started with installing 33 new members, starting a new Rotary club of Gollapudi with 33 members, a new Rotaract club of KBN College with 33 members and a new Interact club Amali English Medium School with 33 members.

Introduced Proud Supporter concept and raised funds for service activities and helped the members to grow their business in the Rotary community.

Community Service: In this year Midtown has given high importance to the Service activities, some of the highlights:

  • Happy Villages – before the year started, president and team conducted survey and choose 7 villages for service.
  • Constructed Rotary Midtown Community Hall in Tummalapalem Village by spending around Rs 5,50,000
  • Distributed 8 waste pickup three wheel rickshaws & 500 Dustbins in Gollapudi, Rayanapadu, Tummalapalem, Surayapalem Villages under Swachh Bharath program.
  • Helped Village Schools with E-Learning, Water Purifier, Bags, Books, Meal Plates etc.
  • Happy Schools – This year we have Choose around 20 municipal schools to make them happy schools.
  • Planned and got the approval of Global Grant Project worth of Rs. 40,00,000 to provide 871 benches , 11 Kent RO Systems with 3 yr warranty & Training to Students & Teachers for betterment of their life and education system
  • Provided E-learning systems
  • Provided Scholarship worth of Rs. 2,11,500 to around 40 students
  • Distributed 1000 All in one Books worth around Rs 3,50,000
  • Distributed 1000 Schools bags, 10,000 note books, 500 kits with (pen, pencil, scale, eraser & sharpener)
  • Conducted Six (6) Medical Camps and Number of Services at Old age homes & Orphanage homes.
  • Started 2 Vocational Centers that brings total 3 under our club. We have distributed around 50 sewing machines to the poor women who got trained in our centers.
  • Helped Hudhud victims in Vizaq & Vijayanagaram areas by collecting used/new cloths from our members for supporting at least 500 families in the tribal villages & another 500 families in metro. Great experience of travelling in the tribal area and distributing the cloths. This program is covered in Rotary News.

Youth Service Activities: Splendid year for Youth services, some highlights:

  • IMPACT - A 3 day program with motivational, leadership & personal development skills training to the students. Around 1500 students benefited from this program. This program brought 24 great speakers under one platform. Spent around Rs. 4,00,000 for this program.
  • Motivational talk for How to prepare for exams to the 10th students in 10 municipal schools.
  • Talent Hunt, Music competitions, Debates etc to encourage and bring out the students talent
  • Science exhibition is one of the highlights of the Youth service programs,
  • Midtown Olympics is another high light of the Youth services. This is well organized program by directors. Around 2000 students from Vijayawada town participated in 20 sports.

Public Image: Another great year for Midtown in the public image. Some of the highlights:

  • This year we have adopted a traffic island in the center of the city where thousands of people travel every day.
  • Displayed 22 hoardings in Railways station displaying the Rotary Messages.
  • Displaying Large Hoardings on the MG Road for important Occasions.
  • Paper media & electronic media covered extensively about our activities.
  • In fact this year our Rotary News covered midtown activities with full page articles at least 3 times.

Vocational Excellence Award: This year we have given Midtown Vocational Excellence Award to Padma Bhushan Pullela Gopichand a badminton legend.

Foundation Support: First time in the history of Midtown, we have crossed ONE LAKH USA Dollars by supporting a total $1,15,000 to The Rotary Foundation. This includes two endowments received this year.

Membership: Brought the net membership to 451 and also started Rotary Club of Gollapudi with 33 members. We have released the Club Roaster with Yellow pages and cleaned the RI database by entering our member full names, DOB’s etc.

Fellowship: Midtown is known for fellowship. This year also we kept with the pace by conducting Grand MPL, Friendship day celebrations, Garden party, New Year bash, Ugadi Sambaralu, theatre parties & Anthakshari etc.

Excellent planning well ahead of schedule in BOARD MEETINGS, a disciplined and thought provoking REGULAR MEETINGS, midtown josh and hungama in FAMILY GET TOGETHERS, service above self in COMMUNITY PROGRAMS, meaningful VOCATIONAL SERVICE PROGRAMS, novel, innovative and power packed NEW GENERATION PROGRAMS, humble hospitality in INTERNATIONAL SERVICE ACTIVITES, very prompt in payment of R I Dues & other Statutory Commitments and finally giving is living i.e., our members commitment towards THE ROTARY FOUNDATION AND POLIO FUND makes our club CHAMPION OF CHAMPIONS CLUB.

This year is so special in many ways…

  • 145 new members are inducted in this year which is world record by any means in ROTARY HISTORY

  • 55 members’ participation in ROTARY INTERNATIONAL CONVENTION at Bangkok
  • Activities of three Matching Grants amounting to Rs.26.00 Lakhs
  • Inauguration and maintenance of prestigious MIDTOWN ROTARY HOSPITAL by our own Service Trust.
  • Atleast one Family Get Together in every month i.e. bringing families to Rotary main theme of our R I President Kalyan.

Each and every act of above activities brought laurels to our club and the same resulted in District Awards to our club. Our Club has bagged 31 awards / recognitions including CHAMPION OF CHAMPIONS CLUB and CHAMPION OF CHAMPIONS PRESIDENT.

Rtn. G. Srinivas AryaThis year midtown Rotary was successful in all avenues of Rotary. Right from the Installation day importance was given to membership growth, community service, vocational help, family of rotary etc. This year the club hosted the Multi District Membership Development Seminar with R.I.Dist 3150&3020 in the month of july 2010 which was a stupendous success with a record attendance of 600 delegates. The club also hosted the Dist Assembly “SMILE” in the month of April 2011 which was also a grand success. In the field of community service Mid Town Rotary installed six water purification plants in different schools in VZA. The club donated Tricycles and Wheel chairs to physically challenged people. Toilets and Compound wall for girls toilets were constructed in Rajeevnagar Corpn school. Scholarships to economically poor students worth of 1,25,000 were distributed. Rice bags and provisions were donated to the students in RCM school and SKCV children Trust. School Uniforms, bags and books were distributes to the students. Literacy classes for working women were conducted at Siddartha Mahila Kalasala. Rs 50000/- was donated for the upliftment of the Veterinary Hospital at Gollapudi. A MEGA Medical camp was organized at Gollapudi in Datta Kalyanamandapam in the month of December 2010.

New Generations month was celebrated with the title “DUS DHAMAKA” . Chukka Ramaiah’s program for students was a roaring success with an attendance of 1200 students. Prof Murali Krishna’s Career Guidance program was organized at two colleges. ‘TREASURE HUNT” a car race was organized. Shuttle Tournament, Skating race, dance and singing competetions for street children were conducted.

Vocational Service month: smt Sailaja Kiron was honoured with vocational excellence award. Industrial visit to milk project was organized.

Coming to family of Rotary, four theatre parties were arranged. Family get togethers like Garden party and New Year Carnival were arranged.

In International service, Midtown was proud to send pp C.R.Mohan as a leader for GSE team to Dist 7550,West Virginia USA. The Midtown members attended the Rotary Institute at Bangkok with a record delegation of 23 members which is the highest in 3020. Midtown Rotary is the only club in 3020 to attend the New Orleans Convention with 3 delegates.

ROTARY FOUNDATION: This is a mark of record in Midtown history towards contributions to TRF. An endowment fund of 25000 US$ fron sri V.Ravi Kumar USA and PDG M.V.Prasad and pres elect Satish Babu became major donors. The club altogether contributed an amount of 67000$ to TRF with the support of all our midtown members. In this year a Midtown Rotary Hospital Service Trust was formed to build a hospital at Gollapudi. A matching grant of Rs 11,50,000 was granted for the development of SDA school at Ibrahimpatnam. MPL cricket was organized and donated 2500$ to polio fund in this year.

Lastly the Midtown was applauded by our DG with the presentation of 30 awards which includes Best Club, BEST president,Innovative Secretary, Best club service director,Best Intl service director,Best Asst Governor, Best Medical camp,Highest contribution to TRF etc.

Organised Youth Festival - 2005 in the month of September, organised Family of Rotary meets like Garden Party, 3 Theatre Parties, Divali Mela, New Year Celebrations, Formation and Charter Day Celebrations in a grand manner.

Received two Matching Grants for IOL Operations. Hosted Two GSE Teams came from Philipplines and Brazil. In this year Rtn. Sultan Moosavi lead the GSE Team R.I. Dist.3020 team to Brazil. The unique honour to Mid-Town in this year is Rtn.M.V. Prasad’s unanimous Eelection as District Governor Nominee for the year 2008-09 to R.I. Dist.3020.

The philosophy of the club has, been, since it's inception, to BE A FRIEND of the community, responding to the needs of the community with a resolve to SOW THE SEEDS OF LOVE. Nothing would have been possible without the imagination and sincere work done by each and every member of the club. The real strength of the club lies in the excellent dedication and fellowship among the individual members. The presiding officers were only the mark of the exceptional solidarity of the members of the club.

Rtn. Tulluri PrasadThe year of Fun, Frolic and Friendship. Tulluri Prasad with his motto Arise, Awake and Stop not till the Goal is reached was the leader in the year 2001-02. Great emphasis was laid on Fellowship and Community Service Programmes. Financial assistance was provided to Rotary Kalyana Mandapam and to the Earthquake Victims at Gujarat. Rtn. N.S.R.K. PrasadUnder the leadership of N.S.R.K. Prasad the club climbed to new echelons in Community and club service. Homeopathy Camps were conducted and medicines distributed to the needy. Blood Grouping was undertaken at a large scale and a Donors list was maintained. District Sports and Cultural Meet was hosted this year. A great lover of Rotary Foundation Prasad contributed his mite to the great Foundation. Health Checkup Camps were conducted in Municipal Schools. Scholarships were given to the needy.

Rtn. Surendranath MajetyEvery dynamic and a man with a lot of novelties Rtn. Surendranath Majety led the club in the year 1995-96. A staunch supporter of Rotary Foundation - a cheque was presented to the Governor for $ 2000 on his installation day. Fellowship was at its helm in this year as the President stressed for Family Get-togethers. A Free Polio Immunization Centre was started at Anurag Hospital run by the able Presidents Spouse Dr. Madhavi on every Wednesday. For the first time in the history of our club a month.

Rtn. A. SeshadryThen came the decennial year under the leadership of President A. Seshadry. The year witnessed a number of health camps organised in association with St. Anns Hospital Vijayawada and Dr. N.R.S. Govt. Ayurvedic Hospital where in more than 2500 patients availed the service. Free distribution of medicines was ensured to every patient. A substantial part of the expenditure involved in distribution of medicines was subsidized by contributions from various benevolent individual members of the club.
The year also witnessed a unique exhibition wherein members of the club displayed, during October as a part of the vocational service month, the products and services they deal in which facilitated each other to know what exactly the other does. Filmstar Sobhana, a classical dancer more than a filmstar, performed classical dance for the benefit of the club programs. The club had the distinction of hosting various district meets such as workshop on polioplus, workshop on WCS projects, orientation.

1993-94 (Rtn. Rajkumar Baid)

Rtn. Rajkumar BaidIt was for Rajkumar Baid as next President to consolidate on the growth and prepare the club to step into the next decade. The eversmilling president won the goodwill of all the members and it was to his credit the club witnessed a solidarity and formulated various long - term policies to be adopted by the club so as to play the role the club deserved in the district affairs. The youthful President paid special attention to youth activities and a youth festival was organised during September.

Rtn. Dr. Sam MovvaThen came the year of solidarity. Dr. M.V. Sambasiva Rao (Dr. Sam Movva), as president of the club, fortified the fellowship and moulded the same as a means of service to the community. The direct result of the unified sense of fellowship laced with benevolence is the provision of a hearse, a vehicle to carry the mortal remains of humans to the cremation ground, to the community at a nominal cost. The entire cost of the project nearing a Lakh of rupees was raised from individual contributions of the members.

Rtn. B.S.DuttWith the proliferation of membership the immediate task was to build on rapport and friendship in the membership of the Club. The next President B.S.Dutt paid special attention to this aspect and the year witnessed a substantial boost in the fellowship activities in the area of club service. It was due to these efforts the club could exhibit the colourful fabric of fine fellowship which formed the foundation for the fruitful execution of projects in the following years. Rtn. M.S. KrishnaThe District 315 was bifurcated and a new district 302 was carved out during 1990-91. The new District brought new enthusiasm and it was for the new President M.S. Krishna to bring new blood in order to infuse new talent into the club. It was under his leadership the club witnessed a substantial growth in membership. He had the credit for inducting 27 distinguished members into the club.
The quality of the membership stood the test of standard with two among such new members becoming Presidents of the club in the next four years. Regular checkup was for Deaf & Dumb children were conducted at Madonna School for Deaf & Dumb. District Seminar on Preserve Planet Earth was organised in response to the clarion call given by R.I. President. District Sports meet was hosted by the club. The year was also note worthy for the eye camps wherein 3500 school children were screened for defecti.

Rtn. J. NiyanthaIt was a reign of service under the benevolent dictator Niyantha during 1980-90. The year witnessed a multifarious growth in service projects during the entire year spread over a wide range of areas. Unique projects during the year included self hypnosis sessions for hard - core smokers to get rid of the compelling habit. Rtn. M.V. Sampath Baba (Late )The next year under the leadership of M.V. Sampath Baba (Late ) gave impetus to community service programms. Recognising the need for permanent infrastructure, the club has donated funds for the construction of a classroom in S.K.P.V.V.Hindu High School in Vijayawada old town area. Books useful for school children were presented to various high schools under the management of Municipal Corporation.

Rtn. T. Jairam PrasadUnder the leadership of T. Jairam Prasad this year has seen an increase in the tempo in both community service and club service. Drinking water project to provide tap water to the residents of a nearby village Apparaopet was a landmark in the service of community. It was during this period that a District Rotary Information Seminar was hosted by the club. It was during this period that the club carved out a niche for itself in the then RI Dist. 315 for the work done in corneal transplants. It was almost a fete for a new club to handle a job of such a magnitude and the youthful dynamism tookup the job gallantly, culminating into recognition with significant achievement award by Rotary International.
