Answering a need for a new Rotary Club in the city for the younger generation of businessmen and professionals, the Rotary Club of Vijayawada Mid - Town came into being on 12th December, 1984. It was the idea of the then district Governor G. Mangaraj to promote a new rotary club comprising young members and drafted Rtn. Aki Anjaneyulu for the job. The credit for all the hard work and imagination that go into formation of the new club belongs to Rtn. Aki Anjaneyulu, the Governor's Special Representative. The venerable member of Rotary Club of Vijayawada left no stone unturned in ensuring a quality membership coming from diverse professions, vocations and backgrounds.

1984-86

|
The club was presented charter on 24th April, 1985 with 33 members. The average age of membership or file was just around 27 years. The first truncated and the second full Rotary years under the leadership of H.T. Swamakumar and T. Jairamprasad, the charter President and Charter Secretary respectively, were the crucial for it was the period when the tone and pace for the new Club were to be set. 1986-87
|
|
The next President, Nitin K. Parekh, second in row, set a frenetic pace in community service. It was during this period that the club carved out a niche for itself in the then RI Dist. 315 for the work done in corneal transplants. It was almost a fete for a new club to handle a job of such a magnitude and the youthful dynamism tookup the job gallantly, culminating into recognition with significant achievement award by Rotary International.

1987-88

|
Under the leadership of T. Jairamprasad this year has seen an increase in the tempo in both community service and club service. Drinking water project to provide tap water to the residents of a nearby village Apparaopet was a landmark in the service of community. It was during this period that a District Rotary Information Seminar was hosted by the club. 1988-89
|
|
The next year under the leadership of M.V. Sampath Baba (Late )gave impetus to community service programms. Recognising the need for permanent infrastructure, the club has donated funds for the construction of a classroom in S.K.P.V.V.Hindu High School in Vijayawada old town area. Books useful for school children were presented to various high schools under the management of Municipal Corporation.

1989-90

|
It was a reign of service under the benevolent dictator Niyantha during 1980-90. The year witnessed a multifarious growth in service projects during the entire year spread over a wide range of areas. Unique projects during the year included self hypnosis sessions for hard - core smokers to get rid of the compelling habit. 1990-91

|
The District 315 was bifurcated and a new district 302 was carved out during 1990-91. The new District brought new enthusiasm and it was for the new President M.S. Krishna to bring new blood in order to infuse new talent into the club. It was under his leadership the club witnessed a substantial growth in membership. He had the credit for inducting 27 distinguished members into the club.

The quality of the membership stood the test of standard with two among such new members becoming Presidents of the club in the next four years. Regular checkup was for Deaf & Dumb children were conducted at Madonna School for Deaf & Dumb. District Seminar on Preserve Planet Earth was organised in response to the clarion call given by R.I. 1991-92

|
With the proliferation of membership the immediate task was to build on rapport and friendship in the membership of the Club. The next President B.S.Dutt paid special attention to this aspect and the year witnessed a substantial boost in the fellowship activities in the area of club service. It was due to these efforts the club could exhibit the colourful fabric of fine fellowship which formed the foundation for the fruitful execution of projects in the following years. 1992-93

Then came the year of solidarity. Dr. M.V. Sambasiva Rao, as president of the club, fortified the fellowship and moulded the same as a means of service to the community. The direct result of the unified sense of fellowship laced with benevolence is the provision of a hearse, a vehicle to carry the mortal remains of humans to the cremation ground, to the community at a nominal cost. It was for Rajkumar Baid as next President to consolidate on the growth and prepare the club to step into the next decade. The eversmilling president won the goodwill of all the members and it was to his credit the club witnessed a solidarity and formulated various long - term policies to be adopted by the club so as to play the role the club deserved in the district affairs. Then came the decennial year under the leadership of President A. Seshadry. The year witnessed a number of health camps organised in association with St. Anns Hospital Vijayawada and Dr. N.R.S. Govt. Ayurvedic Hospital where in more than 2500 patients availed the service. Free distribution of medicines was ensured to every patient. A substantial part of the expenditure involved in distribution of medicines was subsidized by contributions from various benevolent individual members of the club. Th

The year also witnessed a unique exhibition wherein members of the club displayed, during October as a part of the vocational service month, the products and services they deal in which facilitated each other to know what exactly the other does. Every dynamic and a man with a lot of novelties Rtn. Surendranath Majety led the club in the year 1995-96. A staunch supporter of Rotary Foundation - a cheque was presented to the Governor for $ 2000 on his installation day. Fellowship was at its helm in this year as the President stressed for Family Get-togethers. Under the leadership of N.S.R.K. Prasad the club climbed to new echelons in Community and club service. Homeopathy Camps were conducted and medicines distributed to the needy. Blood Grouping was undertaken at a large scale and a Donors list was maintained. District Sports and Cultural Meet was hosted this year. A great lover of Rotary Foundation Prasad contributed his mite to the great Foundation. Health Checkup Camps were conducted in Municipal Schools. Scholarships were given to the needy.

Next year it was the turn of R. Chandrasekhar to lead this dynamic young club in District 3020. He gave great impetus to Rotary Foundation $5,000 highest ever raised by our Club as well as in the District for that particular year. It was for M.V. Prasad as next President to consolidate and prepare the Club to step into the new millennium. The quality and quantity of membership stood the test of standard. 27 members were inducted into Rotary - the highest in the District. The magical figure of 103 was achieved in Membership. We sponsored two RVC's and one Interact Club at Montessori High School. We also sponsored two new Rotary Clubs - Rotary Club of Vijayawada Metro and Rotary Club of Jaggaiahpet. Received 27 Awards at the District Awards Night held at Nidadavole which included Best Club and Best President. Oganised Two Day Seminar on SSS Promotion & Foreign Exports Opportunities along with FAAPCI. Hosted President's Elect Training Seminar at Vijayawada.

Millennium Year was headed by a Lady Rotarian V. Nagalakshmi. We provided safe drinking water projects at three Municipal Elementary Schools at Payakapuram and Ajitsingh Nagar. Provided Iron Beds at Swargapuri, Vijayawada. Formally inaugurated Childrens Opportunities Grant Programme at Mano Vikas in the name and style of ROTARY - ITRODD Physio Therapy Centre. We jointly hosted the Millennium District Conference and Multi District Sports Meet at Vijayawada.

A Golden Letter Year in the history of our Club, under the new leader of the new Millennium T.P.D. Prasad. We sponsored the candidature of Rtn. PP. Sam Movva to the office of District Governor 2002-03. Received $2068 for the IOL operations. Family Get - togethers and Fellowship Meets were organised every month. The year of Fun, Frolic and Friendship. Tulluri Prasad with his motto Arise, Awake and Stop not till the Goal is reached was the leader in the year 2001-02. Great emphasis was laid on Fellowship and Community Service Programmes. Financial assistance was provided to Rotary Kalyana Mandapam and to the Earthquake Victims at Gujarat. Conducted 130 IOL operations after screening various patients in and around Vijayawada. Received 10 District Awards which included in "Best Bulletin Award".

A man of Action and not Words Ramu (P. Sundar Rao) is the 19th President of our Club for the year 2002-03. For the first time he led a team of 11 members to Srilanka for 5 days. Another milestone in this year is hosting "THE HARVEST'' the Annual District Conference of RI District 3020. A Record participation of 72 clubs and 1523 Registrations raised Mid Town Vijayawada to greater heights. For the first time in the History of R.I. Rtn. Ashok Jain led the club in the 2003-04. Weekly Community Service Programme was continued. Organised Mega Health Camp in the name of Sukheebhava along with Eeenadu News Paper. Hosted MYTHRI-2003 - District Fellowship Meet on 16.08.2003. Organised “Seva Sravanthi” - Rotary Health Concerns Service Week from 28th Nov. to 4th Dec. 2003. Under the Leadership of Rtn.G. Muralidhara Arya the club raised the family relations in this year. He was ably supported by Secretary Rtn. C. Ramakrishna who baged Best Secretary of R.I. Received two Matching Grants for IOL Operations. Hosted Two GSE Teams came from Philipplines and Brazil. In this year Rtn. Sultan Moosavi lead the GSE Team R.I. Dist.3020 team to Brazil. The unique honour to Mid-Town in this year is Rtn.M.V. Prasad’s unanimous Eelection as District Governor Nominee for the year 2008-09 to R.I. Dist.3020.

The philosophy of the club has, been, since it's inception, to BE A FRIEND of the community, responding to the needs of the community with a resolve to SOW THE SEEDS OF LOVE. Nothing would have been possible without the imagination and sincere work done by each and every member of the club. The real strength of the club lies in the excellent dedication and fellowship among the individual members. The presiding officers were only the mark of the exceptional solidarity of the members of the club.
